As the capital of Nigeria, Abuja is a very attractive city with various prominent structures such as the Aso Rock, The Presidential Complex, National Assembly, Supreme Court and Zuma Rock. Other notable features Of this city are the Nigerian National Mosque and the Nigerian National Christian Centre. As Nigeria’s capital the embassies of many countries are located in it. The fact is that Abuja is a very beautiful and wonderful wealthy city. It is therefore not a surprise that it has a population of over three million and is always on the increase. This has resulted in the establishment of various satellite towns which include Karu Urban Area, Suleja, Gwagwalada, Lugbe, Kuje amongst others.

1. Kubwa

Kubwa a residential area in Bwari is mostly populated by middle class people such as civil servants, businessmen, commercial motorcycle riders, artisans, entrepreneurs amongst others.

A lot of businesses such as supermarkets, shops and general markets e.g Kubwa Market, site 2-phase 1 Market, etc. are operational in the area. There is good road network and you can easily get to other parts of Abuja. Necessities can also be easily gotten in the area. So an apartment in Kubwa is not a bad idea as it is comfortable and affordable.

2. The Karu Urban Area

With a population of about two million people, Karu is a fast developing city that has an increase rate of 40% every year. Some towns in Karu include; Kurunduma, New Nyanya, Mararaba, New Karu, Ado, Masaka among others.

Karu is a comfortable place with affordable accommodation. A flat can be gotten at a cheap cost and other parts of Abuja are easily accessible from the area.

3. Lugbe

This is one of the well known suburban area in Abuja with a large population. It is situated at the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and has five districts which are Lugbe south, Lugbe north, Lugbe central, Lugbe west and Lugbe east. You can get to Lugbe after about 17 minutes drive from the Central Business District of Abuja. And it will take just 13 minutes drive to get to Abuja Airport from Lugbe. It comprises mostly of working class people. Lugbe is developing rapidly because of the fact that is close to the centre of the city and the Abuja airport. NYSC members always choose to stay in Lugbe because it is cheaper when compared to other parts of Abuja and also the City centre and Airport is easily accessible.

One has to bear it in mind that due to the airport road, there may be traffic from time to time but nevertheless Lugbe is okay as a residential area.

4. Kuje

Kuje is an area that is quite active with the media and boosts of some community magazine, examples of which are the Kuje Reflection, that deals with local Kuje news, Konfam which is focused on Kuje, it’s culture and values with a purpose of showcasing Kuje in general.

Kuje is developing at a very fast rate and houses are constantly built there due to the fact that it is close to Abuja and there are no more informal settlements on the airport road.

If you are a low or average income earner you can rent an apartment in this area as it would be more affordable.
